Hello everyone ! It’s been quite a long time since I last made some DIYs… and as Christmas is approaching, I thought the occasion would be good to do some DIYs. I went just for three simple ones. No need to create clutter, just needed decorations etc for Christmas time. 🙂 Let me show you.
– Napkin Rings (from toilet paper rolls)
I wanted to do this one for a long time. And it’s one of the easiest thing ever. I’m sure kids would love doing these for Christmas (or any other time of year). All you need is some toilet paper rolls, washi tape, clear tape and scissors. Cut the roll to create the ring shape. Cover it with clear tape, this way the washi tape will adhere better to the cardboard texture of the ring. Then, be creative and cover the whole thing with the washi tape of your choice. Here are mine.
– Diamond ornament (from paper straws)
This one, I confess, was a bit tricky at first. But I managed to understand how it worked and how to make it. I cut 9 identical pieces of paper straws I had lying around. These were perfect as they reminded me of candy cane, quite accurate for Christmas time, isn’t it? I also used some thick golden thread to hold everything together. I first made a triangle with three of the pieces, then I made a kind of diamond (?) with the remaining pieces. See the pictures, they speak better than me I think.
The triangle piece was supposed to be the middle one, separating the top and bottom part of the bigger piece. Again, I used some thread to join these two pieces and create the final diamond. Finally, I added a loop on top to hang it somewhere more easily.
– Paper House for a Christmas Village (from scrapbooking paper and cookies box)
This year I decided to start making a small Christmas village in cardboard and paper. It’s low cost, light and easier to store than the cute little houses sold in stores. I decided to make at least one this year and enlarge the collection each year. To be honest, I was inspired by the Mindell family from Studio DIY. Each year, Kelly and her son Arlo decorate a house to add to their existing Christmas village. I found it so cute I wanted to do something similar, but in my own way. If you don’t already know Kelly’s blog (Studio DIY) you should definitely check it out.
To make the paper house, I drawed on scrapbooking paper a house shape and cut it off. Then, I also cut a piece of a cookie box perfect to fit the back of the house and make it stand on its own. I painted this piece of box but covering it with white paper could have done the job too. Then, I glued it on the back of the house shape and waited until it was dry. And voila !
I hope you like these little decorations. Personnally, my favourite is the diamond ornament. Next year, I think I’ll do some more, the same size and smaller ones.
Thank you for reading my blog, I really appreciate. I hope you like it.
That’s all for today’s post, I’ll talk to you soon in the next post.
Until then, take care of yourself ❤
Ady ❤
