Zero Waste and Zero Spending DIYs Part 4

Hello everyone ! Welcome back for another ZeroWaste and ZeroSpending DIYs post ! It’s been a while since I last shared this kind of DIYs. Today, I would be sharing only one, but it’s a big one ! It’s a desk I made for myself a while ago now. Building this desk cost me absolutely nothing, since I used only recycled materials and other basic materials I already had at home.

Let me show you !

Making a Palet wood and Parquet Leftovers Desk

This one was quite fun. It all started with me having no special intention to build something. I first collected all the parquet leftover pieces and started to play with them like I would have with a puzzle. Then I ended up with a large piece, starting to wonder what to do with it…. It’s right at this moment that I remembered we had some orphaned table legs laying somewhere in our wood storage. This is how I decided to make a desk, since mine was too small.

However, I didn’t want the joint between the legs and the top to be visible, so I took some boards we saved from palets and created a frame that would go under the top and around the legs. I don’t think it really add something to the sturdiness of the desk, it’s rather just about esthetics. And more importantly, it allows you to hide any ugly parts or mistakes right on the joints. Perfect. For the top I chose to have a curved cut, removing as less wood as possible but giving it a smoother and finished look.

Lastly I sanded and stained it so it would last longer.

Taddaaa ! Honestly, I think this one is my favourite. There’s something so magical about building furniture, working with wood. Especially when you don’t spend a penny at all on the project. All the materials are recycled, second-hand and this way, this piece of furniture is both new (since I built it myself) and vintage (since it’s made from recycled elements). The perfect definition of DIY from Scratch !

That’ll be all for today’s post, I hope you like it.
